Your information
Privacy policy
Last updated 2 October 2026
When you ask us for help with debt, you trust us with some of the most private information you have. This policy explains what we collect, why, who sees it, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
1. Who is responsible
Clearview Debt Counselling is the responsible party for your personal information. Contact our Information Officer at info@debtreliefbiz.co.za or 031 000 0000.
2. What we collect
- Contact details — name, phone number, email address.
- Financial information — income, expenses, debts and credit providers, which you share with us or Sandy.
- Documents — if you go ahead: ID, payslips, bank statements, proof of address and creditor statements.
- Conversations — transcripts of your conversation with Sandy, and notes from calls with your counsellor.
- Your client account — login details and your payment progress.
- Your story — only if you choose to share a testimonial or video.
Some of this is special personal information under POPIA. We process it only to provide debt counselling to you and as the National Credit Act requires.
3. Why we use it
- To call you back and assess whether debt review can help you.
- To apply for debt review, notify your credit providers and credit bureaus, and negotiate your repayment plan.
- To manage your account, show your progress and remind you about payments.
- To meet our legal obligations as a registered debt counsellor.
5. How we protect it
- Documents are encrypted and only your assigned counsellor can open them.
- Staff sign in individually, and every view of your file is logged.
- Sandy never asks for ID numbers, bank details, passwords or PINs.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your file for as long as you are under debt review and for the period the law requires afterwards. If you never become a client, we delete your enquiry after 12 months unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
7. Your rights
- Ask what information we hold about you, and for a copy.
- Ask us to correct or delete information.
- Object to us processing your information, and withdraw consent you gave.
- Complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za) if you are unhappy with how we handled your information.
9. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Significant changes will be shown on your client dashboard.
